CHEVORLET CAMARO 2016 UNWRAPPED

chevorlet unwrapped its latest version of camaro on saturday at  belle Isle Park in the Detroit River. This is a new approach to Chevrolet's performance cars," global brand chief Alan Batey said. "Cars with higher technology, lighter weight and better performance.

Chevrolet expects that performance to win new customers, much as the first generation of muscle cars propelled the brand to sales records a couple of generations ago. An astounding 63% of buyers of the previous, fifth-generation Camaro were new to Chevrolet. Sales of Detroit's sporty cars have surged this year on the strength of the new Mustang and Dodge's scary-fast 707-hp Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Chevrolet expects the same from the new Camaro.

"The Camaro breathes passion into our designers and engineers," General Motors global product development boss Mark Reuss said. Reuss' first car was a '67 Camaro his father bought used for $1,500. "Everybody wanted to be seen in a Camaro," Reuss said. "Camaros and Corvettes, they help define Chevrolet."

That translated to a throng of Camaro owners and fans, many of whom had travelled hundreds of miles and taken vacation time to see the new model's unveiling Saturday. The crowd included plenty of grayhairs who probably remembered the Camaro's first heyday in the 1960s, but also Gen Xers and Millennials who got turned on by the Transformers, movies.
